Steps for Lens Firmware Update (Windows)

Before updating
Please ensure that the firmware of the camera body is updated to the latest version.
Use a fully charged battery or connect the camera to the AC adapter
Do not disconnect the battery or the AC adapter during the firmware update of the lens
Ensure the power of the camera is always kept ON during the firmware update of the lens
Remove any memory card from the camera
The lens needs to be attached to a camera to update the firmware

STEP 01Download the software for lens firmware update

Check the terms and conditions on the SIGMA Software Program License Agreement, and download the file if you agree with them.
Select the directory and save the file.

SIGMA SOFTWARE PROGRAM LICENSE AGREEMENT

NOTICE - Read this before downloading, copying or using the Software Program.

Installing and using the Licensed Software Program for Firmware ("Licensed Software") indicates the acceptance of these terms and conditions when users select “download” button. Read all of the terms and conditions of this license agreement prior to installing or using the Licensed Software Program. If you do not accept these terms, you must delete the Licensed Software Program from your hardware.
Please note that you may not use, copy, modify or transfer the Licensed Software or documentation or any copy, except as expressly provided in this agreement.

1. License.

This Licensed Software Program (the "Software") and the accompanying on-line read-me and help files (the "Documentation") are licensed, not sold, to you by SIGMA Corporation ("SIGMA"). Subject to the terms of this Agreement, you have a personal, nontransferable, nonexclusive and non-sublicensable right to use the Software solely for your personal or internal business purposes, and not for any further resale, re-license or other use by third parties. On condition that you own an applicable lens for update, you may use this Software on any computer owned by you or under your control. You agree to prevent and protect the contents of the Software and Documentation from unauthorized disclosure or use. SIGMA reserves all rights not expressly granted to you. SIGMA's licensors are the intended third party beneficiaries of this license agreement and have the express right to rely upon and directly enforce the terms set forth herein.

2. Limitation on Use.

You agree not to

  • assign, transfer, lease, rent or engage in any time-sharing of the Software,
  • alter or modify the Software, in whole or in part,
  • modify or create any derivative work of the Software, in whole or in part or,
  • reverse assemble, decompile, reverse engineer or otherwise attempt to derive source code, the underlying ideas, algorithms, structure or organization of the Software in whole or in part.

You shall not remove, alter, cover or obfuscate any copyright notices or other proprietary rights notices placed or embedded by SIGMA on or in any Software or Documentation.

3. Restrictions

You may not sublicense, assign, delegate, rent, lease, time-share or otherwise transfer this license or any of the related rights or obligations for any reason. Any attempt to make any such sublicense, assignment, delegation or other transfer by you shall be void.

4. Copyright.

The Software and related Documentation are copyrighted by SIGMA. You may only copy the Software (or this license) to update applicable lenses by computers which are owned by you or under your control. You may make one copy of the Documentation and print one copy of any on-line documentation or other materials provided to you in electronic form for each permitted copy of the Program. Any and all other copies of the Software and any copy of the Documentation made by you are in violation of this license.

5. Ownership.

You agree that all rights, title and interest in and to the Software and Documentation including all intellectual property rights thereto belong to SIGMA. You agree that you neither own nor hereby acquire any claim or right of ownership to the Software and Documentation or to any related patents, copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual property. SIGMA retains all right, title and interest in and to the Documentation and all copies and the Software at all times, regardless of the form or media in or on which the original or other copies may subsequently exist. This license is not a sale of the original or any subsequent copy. All content accessed through the Software is the property of the applicable content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright law. This license gives you no rights to such content.

6. Limited Warranty.

SIGMA provides the Software and the documentation "as is" and specifically disclaim any warranty of any kind whether express, implied or statutory, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, non-infringement and fitness for a particular purpose. All risk of quality and performance of the Software and the Documentation is with you, the licensee. Should the Software prove defective, you, and not the SIGMA, shall assume the entire cost of any service and repair. This disclaimer of warranty constitutes an essential part of this Agreement.

7. Limitation of Remedies.

In no event will licensor nor any of SIGMA’s subsidiaries, be liable for any indirect damages or other relief arising out of your use or inability to use the Software including, by way of illustration and not limitation, lost profits, lost business or lost opportunity, or any indirect, special, incidental or consequential or exemplary damages, including legal fees, arising out of such use or inability to use the Software, even if licensor, its licensors, any of licensor’s subsidiaries, has BEEN advised of the possibility of such damages, or for any claim by any other party to the maximum extent permitted by law. These limitations shall apply notwithstanding the failure of the essential purpose of any limited remedy. Neither SIGMA, nor any of licensor’s subsidiaries, shall have any obligation to indemnify you against any claim or suit brought against you by a third party.

8. Applicable Law.

This license will be governed by the laws of Japan, without reference to conflicts of laws principles. All controversies and disputes arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court in Tokyo, Japan. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the Sale of Goods does not apply to this license.

9. No Other Agreements.

This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the Software and the Documentation, and supersedes any other written or oral agreement.

10. General Principle.

If any part of this Agreement is found void and unenforceable by any law or court, such provision shall be null and void. However, all the remaining part of the agreement shall remain in full force and effect.

11. General Provisions.

This warranty shall not apply in any case of amendment or alterations of the Software made by you.

STEP 02Operating the Software Program

Select the file “Update_SigmaC30F14V3.exe” that has been downloaded onto the computer and double-click it to operate the software program.

* Do not connect the camera to the PC at this moment.

STEP 03Check the camera status

Turn on the camera and select “USB Connection” from the Menu. Then select “Mass Storage”.
* Some cameras do not require this process.
* Do not connect the camera to the PC in this process.

STEP 04Connect the camera to the PC

  • Ensure the memory card is removed while the lens is attached to the camera. Then use the supplied USB Cable to connect the camera to the PC.
  • After connecting the camera to the PC properly, select the “Next” button in the “Lens System Software Updater” and the below message will appear on the display;
    * The message “Follow computer instructions.” will appear on the camera display.

In the case of “The update is not available for your lens” message appears, check the Lens System Software Updater is compatible with the lens to update.
he message appears even when the software and the lens are appropriate, close the Lens System Software Updater and remove the cable and power OFF the camera.
Then, start over the update process from the STEP 02.

In case the message “Could not find a camera applicable for this update” appears, follow the instructions in the dialog to check the status.

STEP 05Check the firmware version of the lens

Check the “Update Information” in the bottom left and confirm if the firmware version needs to be updated to Ver. 03.
Click the “Next” button to update it.
If the lens firmware is already Ver. 03, this process can be skipped.

  • After checking the “Update Information”, click the “Next” button to start transferring the software data to the camera.

    Do not power OFF the camera and ensure the USB cable is properly connected during the data transfer.
  • Once the data transfer is over, the following message will appear on the display, so click the “Finish” button.

  • After closing it, the message “Updating the lens” will appear on the camera display, and the firmware update of the lens will start.

STEP 07Finish updating the firmware of the lens

When the message “Lens update complete.” appears on the camera display, the firmware update of the lens is successfully over. Follow the instructions on the screen to close the process. After closing it, remove the USB cable from the camera and the PC.

* After the firmware update is complete, turn off the camera and remove the battery or AC adapter.
Then reinsert the battery/AC adapter and reboot the camera.

STEP 08Confirm the updated software version

Check the “Version.” from the camera menu, and confirm the lens version is updated to Ver. 03.

Login from the Administrator account to start up the Lens System Software Updater.
Start up the Lens System Software Updater.

STEP 03Check the camera status

Turn on the camera and select “USB Connection” from the Menu. Then select “Mass Storage”.
* Some cameras do not require this process.
* Do not connect the camera to the PC in this process.

STEP 04Connect the camera to the PC

  • Ensure the memory card is removed while the lens is attached to the camera. Then use the supplied USB Cable to connect the camera to the PC.
  • After connecting the camera to the PC properly, select the “Next” button in the “Lens System Software Updater” and the below message will appear on the display;
    * The message “follow the instructions on the computer” will appear on the camera display.

In the case of “The update is not available for your lens.” message appears, check the Lens System Software Updater is compatible with the lens to update.
The message appears even when the software and the lens are appropriate, close the Lens System Software Updater and remove the cable and power OFF the camera.
Then, start over the update process from the STEP 02.

In case the message “Could not update” appears, follow the instructions in the dialog to check the status.

STEP 05Check the firmware version of the lens

Check the “Update Information” in the bottom left and confirm if the firmware version needs to be updated to Ver. 03.
Click the “Next” button to update it.

* After the firmware update is complete, turn off the camera and remove the battery or AC adapter.
Then reinsert the battery/AC adapter and reboot the camera.
