Pop-up Photobook Library (3 days only)

SIGMA will also host a pop-up photobook library at T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO. For three days from October 19-21 (with October 18 reserved for press and VIPs), we will present a curated selection from SIGMA's private photobook collection at T3 Photo Asia, the festival's art fair where visitors can view and purchase original works. SIGMA will also exhibit a special selection of Japanese books at the festival, inspired by this year's T3 theme, "New Japanese Photography: 50 Years On". We look forward to welcoming you at the venue.

About SIGMA's sponsorship of T3 Photo Festival 2024

SIGMA's approach is driven by a simple idea: Beyond the technology, is Art. We aim to support artists in their creative processes by providing them with the best cameras and lenses possible. To that end, we continue to push the boundaries of manufacturing and explore the possibilities of photographic equipment. Further, we regard it as an integral part of our business to support and sponsor events, organizations and individuals that promote and foster contemporary photographic culture, and we are proud to participate in this year's T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO both as a sponsor and via our pop-up photobook library.

About the T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO

T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO is a photography festival in the heart of Tokyo that offers visitors a variety of ways to engage with photographic works, supports new artists in pursuing their visions, and aims to make a positive contribution to Tokyo's cultural tourism. This sixth edition of the festival takes place from October 5 to October 27, 2024, under the theme "New Japanese Photography: 50 Years On" and features exhibitions and events in Tokyo's Yaesu, Nihombashi and Kyobashi districts, organized by three curatorial teams. In various discussions, lectures, and other events, curators from the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and other prominent figures of the international art world will speak about new trends and discuss contemporary Japanese photography.

New Japanese Photography: 50 Years On

In 1974, the New York Museum of Modern Art held the exhibition "New Japanese Photography," co-curated by MoMA's director of photography John Szarkowski and Camera Mainichi editor Shoji Yamagishi. The exhibition was the first attempt to present an extensive survey of contemporary Japanese photography outside Japan. Its impact on the understanding and study of Japanese photography around the world continues to this day.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of this landmark exhibition, this year's T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO will feature three distinct shows (curated by Bunmei Shirabe, Mika Kobayashi, and Marc Feustel) that examine the legacy of "New Japanese Photography" from a contemporary viewpoint. Additionally, Sandra S. Phillips (Curator Emerita of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) will offer a fresh view of the original exhibition. Through its many programs and exhibitions, the T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO 2024 aims to highlight the works of contemporary Japanese photographers and trace the journey of Japanese photography over the past fifty years.
