SIGMA AIZU FARM
Sigma Aizu Farm is an agricultural project in Aizu, Japan. As a company, we are mindful of the ways in which our business is supported by the surrounding environment. We believe in the importance of giving back to local communities and working together towards a better future. Through Sigma Aizu Farm, we are strengthening our commitment to the Aizu region and helping to preserve its scenery and way of life.
Craftsmanship rooted in the local community and nature
All of Sigma's lenses and cameras are manufactured in Aizu. The landscape surrounding our Aizu factory is characterized by rice paddies and traditional woodland. It has shaped the local culture and way of life for generations. But like other regions in Japan, Aizu today is confronted with farmland abandonment and a declining workforce, putting local agriculture and scenery at risk. As a company with deep ties to Aizu, we are committed to taking practical steps to improve the region's well-being and preserve its natural environment.
Rice cultivated by Sigma, nurtured by Aizu's water and soil
Sigma Aizu Farm will use Mount Bandai's fertile soil and rich water resources to grow rice in traditional paddies. Rice paddies are an important part of the local ecosystem. They store rainwater, contribute to the local water cycle, sustain biodiversity, and mitigate climate-related risks. Cultivating rice in this way is a long-term commitment that enables us to preserve Aizu's natural environment and create stable, sustainable employment in the region.
The harvested rice will be used for the daily meals served in the employee cafeterias at the Aizu factory and Sigmas's headquarters in Kawasaki. Going forward, we will continue to expand our efforts to support the Aizu region in harmony with its natural resources.
